Setting up your SudsCounter will require installing a 3V Lithium battery CR2477N inside the SudsCounter transmitter box. See illustrations below:
Remove bottom cover
Locate battery holder
Snap in 3V Battery
Install bottom cover
Reinstall bottom cover and tighten both black screws to secure bottom. Make sure SudsCounter is facing correct direction, as this will affect operation.
Next install the SudsCounter on the faucet handle.
Remove faucet knob
Install transmitter as shown
Tighten knob
Test the counter by pulling the faucet open. This will activate the flow counter. The display will count the flow in “ounces”. You can do this with or without the keg tapped. After flow is stopped (faucet closed) the display will flash a total of 6 times, showing the amount of 12 oz beers left in the keg. It will then resume displaying the current inside temperature.
Setting the Keg Size
The Sudscounter can be set to 1/2, 1/4, or 1/6 keg size
1/2 keg equals approximately 165 twelve ounce beers
1/4 keg equals approximately 82 twelve ounce beers
1/6 keg equals approximately 53 twelve ounce beers
To access the SudsCounter menu, press and hold both the “set” and “defrost” keys simultaneously.
The display will show the current keg size setting. By pressing the up or down arrows, you can select the keg size of your choice.
Select 1/2 keg
Select 1/4 keg
Select 1/6 keg
Then hit the “set” key. This will select the keg size and reset to “full”.
You can now begin pouring beer!

Calibration of Flow
To calibrate the SudsCounter flow, enter the menu by pressing and holding the “set” and “defrost” keys simultaneously. Press the up or down arrows to find “CAL” mode. Press the “set” key to start the calibration of beer flow.
Press the “set” key
Pour beer in measure cup
Enter amount of beer poured
After you press the “set” key, tap an amount of beer into a measuring cup. As the beer flows, the display will show the ounces. Upon closing faucet, the display will flash “0.0” until you enter a number. This number should be the amount of beer that poured into the measuring cup. Let the beer foam settle into the cup, then press the “up” key to enter the amount of beer you determine is in the cup. Press the “set” key to enter the new calibration number. The display will show “CAL”, then will resume a constant display of the inside temperature.
The SudsCounter will be as accurate as your flow calibration. The flow is subject to change due to keg pressure changes and inside temperature changes. You can recalibrate at any time. There are several factors that affect the accuracy, but the more accurate your calibration the better the results. Beer foaming is common with newly placed kegs. It is best to calibrate AFTER the beer settles and pours better. The SudsCounter transmitter is operating properly when the display flashes how many beers are left in the keg. The battery should be changed as needed or if you notice no activity on the display when pouring.
NOTE: Beercooler.com LLC does not guarantee 100% accuracy of the SudsCounter. Your results may vary.
The last mode of operation is the selection mode “SEL”. The SudsCounter is factory set to be “on”. There should be no need to change this setting.
Pressing the “set” key while in the “SEL” mode will allow you access to the menu selection of “1” or “0”. Press the “up” or “down” keys to make your change, then press the “set” key to lock in the setting. Setting to “1” turns ON the SudsCounter, setting to “0” turns it OFF. NOTE: This is a setting you should not have to change.
SudsCounter “Important Things to Know”
If you are transporting, storing or not using the Sudsbuddy for a length of time, you may want to remove the battery in the SudsCounter transmitter. This will extend the life of the battery and keep the transmitter turned off.
It is VERY important that the Sudsbuddy unit remain on level ground. The SudsCounter transmitting capability is diminished or terminated if the Sudsbuddy unit is placed on uneven surface or tilted.
When pouring beer, open the faucet fully in one smooth, fast action. Opening and closing quickly or inconsistently during pour will affect accuracy of the SudsCounter.
The SudsCounter will count up to 99 ounces of beer in one pour, allowing you to fill pitchers, etc. Any amount of beer poured up to 99 oz will be counted and deducted from the 12 oz beers left in the keg.
Enjoy your SudsCounter. It was developed to help the beer consumer – no more lifting the keg or shaking to see how much beer is left!
